Chapter 1

Feeling the warm wind blow gently behind her, the teenager set her eyes on the starting posts. "Shhhh, boy" she told her dun Thoroughbred, Daggers Point, or Dino as his stable name. He threw his head up as her arms struggled to restrain him. Lottie was the daughter of a wealthy businessman in horse racing, and as soon as she had entered high school, had enrolled in a course in horse racing. Such as her love of the sport, she practiced all days of the week, had two racehorses, Dino and Rocky (a grey) and competed at weekends in races.

As she neared the start, her heartbeat sped up a little; adrenaline of the thrill started to pump through her veins and could feel butterflies in her stomach. Glancing over her shoulder, she could see the clock tick down, and exhaled deeply as she kicked on and Dino spread out his legs in a fast, eye-watering gallop. The wind speckled blood into the face as she turned the corner on the third furlong, and looked between her horse's ears and how the sky was a beautiful light pink. It was a warm night in the New Jersey summertime, it was very quiet on the track and it was just her and Dino; horse and rider alone and was the ultimate trust.

"Richie! Are you crazy, man?"  the 14 year old Jon asked his best friend, shading his blue eyes against the sunset as he looked over at Richie, who managed to climb the fence. Richie's dark, luscious brown hair blew in his face as he jumped down and onto the racecourse grounds. "Jon, shut up! We're not supposed to be here" Richie told Jon, whispering in a hushed tone as Jon too, climbed over the fence.Richie looked around him, sure that they wouldn't be caught, they strolled over to the white racetrack posts. "Hey Richie" Jon told his best friend, "look", he then pointed to the track and the magnificent animal that was galloping on it.
His black mane shone in contrast t the pale light of the sun, and he had a look of joy splattered across his face; adrenaline pumping through him like wildfire through a forest. Richie's dark brown eyes danced and glanced in awe as the animal galloped past, and saw his classmate on him, Lottie, who had a smile written across her face and gently urged him on a little more using her voice.

As she reached the last furlong, the warm wind speckling blood deep into the face and somehow, speaking to her, she kicked and spurred her horse on in a last push of energy and momentum. The horses hooves came over the finish line as she sat up, and slowed him down into a steady trot and eventually a walk. "Good boy!" she exclaimed, patting Dino and then threw her arms around his wide neck, happiness glowing from her. She looked at her watch, and was ten seconds faster than her last time, and while her horse puffed and cooled off, she though about the two faces she'd seen behind the barrier. Shaking the thought out of her mind, she grew ecstatic once again and gave her horse plenty of affection, therefore showing the love for this beautiful animal.

She took off his headcollar, and gave him his hot mash before she said goodnight to her beloved gelding. Coming across the cobbles that crunched underfoot, she went over to where she saw the two boys and took off her hat. She turned the corner, and there stood Richie and Jon, smiles on their faces. "I appreciate that you're two of my greatest fans, but you really shouldn't be here, someone might catch you and then you'd be in big trouble" she told them, taking off her gloves and releasing her honey brown hair from the ponytail and smiled softly. Richie turned around, and feeling wisps of luxurious desire run through his body, he attempted to reply.
"I- I uhhh, wanted to watch you practice, you look amazing when you're racing" he managed to reply, without letting his voice crack a little, and couldn't help his overwhelming desire for her. "Thanks for the compliment, Rich" she retorted, before turning her attention to the red hue of the sunset. "Such a beautiful sunset, don't you think? I might be 14, but I know that you've got a crush, Richard Sambora." she then stammered.
